:: House Inspiration ::

About six months ago Mr LG and I bought a house together. Our house is an adorable two-bedroom "Queenslander". This means that it is made completely from wood, has VJ (vertical join) walls (I think some places call this beadboard walls?), polished wooden floorboards, and is raised on stilts. It was built around 1910 but the current wall colours, kitchen and bathroom all scream of a dodgy 90s home reno job :/

We have been scouring realestate.com.au, home renovation magazines and blogs for inspiration on the best way to slowly mould our house into our home. Right from the word go, we have found the best inspiration has come from my parents house. In my opinion, my parents have amazing taste.

Below are some pictures of my parents place. This is the first room you see as you walk in the front door. I would love a chandelier one day. They can brighten even the dullest of rooms! You can just see my darling earless cat sitting in her bed on the couch.

This is the same room, looking back towards the front door.

My absolute favourite room in my parents house is their main bathroom. My love for this bathroom makes me a little sad every time I enter our little bathroom.

I also love their kitchen. I love the random stained-glass windows that dot the walls and act as art as well as a source of light.
As you can see, I am a huge fan of antiques and anything "old fashioned" and "quaint". I appreciate that this style is not for everyone, I'm lucky to have found someone who likes the same things I do!

Where/who do you look to for decorating inspiration?

  6. I completely understand the love for your parents' bathroom, it's really amazing, as well as the kitchen and the other rooms. Whilst I am still a huge fan of white walls, I can see your parents have a different style, but it is still one that I hugely admire!

Thanks for the sweet comment, I understand that white can be a little harsh, sometimes different variations of magnolia and cream can be really nice against dark/light wood - renovation is such an exciting prospect! :)

Gah, same here, I recently printed off about 20 photos, on a whim. It's so much nicer to have them to flick through! Just a few thousand more to get me up to date...

  8. Goodness gracious! That house is AMAZING! Now share us pics of your house!!!! I want to see!

I will try to find the website with the info about the bread. It really is amazing to find things we allergy smitten people can have, isn't it? I read your list of allergies and boy howdy, do I feel your pain!!!
I'm allergic to wheat, eggs, cow and goat milk, blueberries, raspberries, apples, tomatoes, bakers yeast, brewers yeast, tuna, kidney beans, black beans, pinto beans and navy beans. I'm not technically allergic to soy but it really bothers my stomach and it's really unhealthy unless properly fermented and aggravates the health issues I have. You and I can be allergy buddies!!!! How did you find out you had all these allergies?

    I'll be in touch!

  12. I really love your parents house. That bathroom is amazing and perfect. I feel the same with our tiny bathrooms :( I too would love a chandelier. I even know where I would put it.

I actually use a thing called Poladroid to make my photos. You can go to the website and download the app?? Not sure what to call it and install it. It's really fun. Especially when your photos aren't that great so I use it to make them look just a little bit better.

I will email you again very soon! Oh and I loved the bridemaid dress inspiration. Beautiful and flowy. x

    Home Sweet Home (http://sweethomestyle.tumblr.com/)

    Desire to Inspire (desiretoinspire.net)

I also love magazines: Better Home and Gardens and Country Living (seems like they would be outdated our too "country" but both highlight very current trends and are full of inspiring ideas)

Good Luck decorating!! We also have a new house and have been working on decorating all the rooms. I've posted about it on my blog...
