:: Gym vs Biscuits ::

About three weeks ago I joined a gym. It was probably the most spontaneous decision I have ever made. I was having a discussion about weight with a girl I work with, and she mentioned we get a discount to a gym in the city because of where we work. Within about 10 minutes I had emailed the gym and had a consultation booked for the next day!

I am not a big fan of exercise and every afternoon I have to practically drag myself to the gym, but I am slowly finding that once I am there I quite enjoy myself. I like the fact that for an hour each afternoon I can switch off and simply concentrate on the sound of my own breathing. I am terrible at cardio, so while I am on the rower/bike/cross-trainer my breathing sounds a bit like this: "*Supressed groan*, *puff puff*, *long exhaled breath with big puffy cheeks*, *wheeze* [insert the sonds of taking my asthma puffer here]" and well, you get the point! I love doing weights though, so I change up my sessions a little to add in some things I don't like with some things that I do. If only my gym had a pool!

The snap decision to join a gym was partly because of my wedding and partly because of how I have been feeling lately. In the past few weeks I have had a lot more energy and I feel a lot better about myself. I have decided not to stare at the number on the scales and instead focus on how I feel and also how my clothes feel. And let me tell you, already my clothes and I are starting to feel great!

Now I need to focus on what I put in my mouth. I have been teaching myself new recipes so I am not so repetitive in the kitchen when I move in with Mr LG. The problem is, the biscuits taste so good! The more I learn to cook/bake, the more I want to eat them!

What's your favourite form of exercise? Mine is swimming, but it's still a little too chilly here to brave the water! What's your food weakness? Mine is potato. I could eat it all day, every day!

  1. I keep telling myself I am going to exercise more, and then almost immediately giving up on myself. It's terrible - I used to be very fit but these days I'm a bit of a blob!

  2. The gym and I have a love hate relationship. We've been on again and off again. I'd have to say that my favorite form of exercise is jogging. I jogging and jogging and jogging I love the wind and trying to push myself further and further til my legs start to hurt. =)

  5. I used to be an avid exerciser. Like I'm talking 2-3 hours a day of cardio. I hated every single second of it but I loved the fact that I was losing so much weight. Ultimately I ended up losing too much and needed treatment to get better. I really want to have a normal relationship with exercising but I find whenever I start an exercise regime I end up obsessing and going overboard. Still I'm trying, and I think that's so awesome that you're learning to love the gym! Hopefully in a healthy, positive way :)

  6. I actually miss working out since the dr said I couldn't. I love to spin and do pilates. As for food, bread is my major weakness.

  7. I can totally relate...I am lucky enough to have a home gym but I wouldn't say that I "love" working out regularly but I do find that it does provide the opportunity to destress and enjoy a few glossies while I sweat away!

  8. Oh man, I totally know what you mean. I have been so bad about working out lately. I've been back on the wagon this week though! We've got this! ♥

  9. Good work on starting to exercise and cooking better. I have a problem with potato too. Especially potato bake. It's one of my favourite things ever!

    And home made bicuits. Yum!

I want to run and do some ballet classes. At the moment I'm running up and down the stairs at home and using Wii fit. Oh and I want to do pilates again.

I've put a few wedding photos and some centre piece photos. Ours was really simple. x

  10. I've recently joined the gym as well and it is so hard going! Mine has free classes included in the membership so I try to go to either yoga or zumba once a week and then workout two or three times. I find the classes much more fun but I think the hardest thing for me is finding time. My food weakness is definitely cheese, so bad!

  11. I commend you on your willpower, Jasmine! I would love to join a gym, but it's not really feasible as I'm only fourteen. I recently had a one off yoga and pilates session and I really loved it, so I think I'd like to try that out more sometime in the future. Good luck with the exercise and looking at what you eat, I think it's great that you're striving to feel good in yourself and your clothes, rather than fixate on weight, etc. Sometimes, my weight gets me down, but at the end of the day, it's about how you feel and your confidence!

My food weakness is pretty much any kind of carb! Or ice cream. Both. It's a tough one!

  13. I'm getting to be a gym fan myself, which I never would have believed... for me it was the classes that did it. If I have to exercise for an hour alone, I'll be lazy. But if someone's yelling at me, I do a little better! ; )

  14. I am trying to get back into the gym habit. I love swimming but a membership to the pool is crazy expensive. I like biking outside in summer. My food weakness is chocolate. I have a bit of a sweet tooth (and when I say "a bit", I mean that all of my teeth are sweet :P)
