:: Creative Photography ::

I remember when I was given my first digital camera. I went a little nuts, taking photos of everything I could ... including photos of a frangipani in our pool. This was actually one of the very first photos I took.

From there I discovered PhotoShop and went through a stage PhotoShopping every photo I took with poems, quotes and colour splashes.
And then I bought a DSLR and started taking even more photos than I did before (which I didn't think was possible!). I have realised lately that even when I am without my camera I am constantly spotting possible photographic opportunities.
A few weeks ago I went to a friend's wedding and took the above two photos - the driver had no idea I was taking his photo. I think the relaxed air about him really makes the photo. My favourite kind of photos are unposed and unexpected.

The next step is to learn more of my camera's functions. I'd like to take a photography course and then a PhotoShop course so I can get the most out of my photos. Have any of you taken a photography or PhotoShop course? What was it like? Did your photography or editing skills improve?

I'm just about to head off to a three-course dinner at my brother and sister-in-law's house. I can't wait!

  1. That frangipani photo is fab! My first photo is nowhere near as good as that.

    I like that you put quotes and such on your photos. I love it when people do that now :) (I'm such a sucker for tumblr).

    And unexpected photos are the best!

    Thanks again for the wonderful package! x

    Well you know I just did a 5 week basic course and it was great. I need to do a photoshop one now. I wish I had more time to spend just walking around with my camera.

  3. Oooh I super love the photos. I was in California for a month and my brother got me a DSLR. It was fun experimenting with the camera but I wish I could have had it long before my one month vacay,that way the photos I took could have been much better.

  5. Oh your pictures are amazing! I NEED to learn photoshop! You seriously have artistic talents here :)

    And to answer your question, I use all kinds of random nailpolish brands. I don't know if you have Avon in Australia, but it's one of those catalogue brands. I recently fell in love with Revlon as well (that's my new silver polish). I heard they just released scented polishes!! What?? Lol I'm very intrigued by that ;)

  9. I'm the same way- the more photos I take, the more I really "see" when I am out and about. Kind of the way that the more I write, the more I focus my thoughts. Sort of adding more intention to things!
    Your photos are lovely, I like the new wedding ones!

  11. Love your wedding shots my dear! And yes I can totally relate to discovering photo opportunities when you're out without a camera. I love what Meri said above. It's true that when you are seeking photos you are training your mind to seek out beauty and moments in time that are so precious and so often overlooked. I did a photoshop course a few years ago, but I'm now a lightroom fan.
